On crafting an experience…

Why 16 Elm is a Boutique Hotel, Not a B&B.

When people picture a small historic property with five luxury suites, they often think "bed and breakfast." It's the familiar term. But when I started 16 Elm, I chose a different path — and it matters for the guest experience.

After 15 years in the event production industry I was very aware that how you set up a space and the feelings you can evoke is the key to curating a seamless and engaging experience for that guest whether it a gala event, inauguration or in this case overnight stays. I’ve taken that experience and crafted a boutique hotel that mirrors those values that most mattered to me as an event professional. All the details matter, the flow of the arrival, the settling in, the linens and the lighting and how those effect your travel itinerary. Breakfast and guest interaction was something I needed to hone in to provide the experience I was looking to create for my guests.

I think we’ve achieved something unique - you sleep in as late as you want with complete privacy in your suite. There are no required meal times, your schedule is entirely your choice. We provide the intimacy and character of a small property with the privacy and flexibility you deserve for your trip. Your romantic getaway or hard won time away shouldn't include awkward small talk with strangers - unless you want to. Your morning is yours. We are steps away from our Main St Cafes and coffee shops and a short drive to waterfalls or the wine trails. In this way the guest can be as public facing as they wish and have the quiet time when they want it. Here there are no structured times - your time is truly your own.

Myself and my staff are here when you need us and invisible when you don't. Need restaurant recommendations? We've got detailed local guides. Want to know which wineries are closest? We'll point you in the right direction. Need early check-in or late checkout? Just ask. We are your ambassadors to the area and are happy to serve as we help you create your vacation bubble! It’s our hospitality philosophy.
